Crossing The Line

Partners: Western Sydney University (WSU), ANROWS, Caitlin Gibson

In this project, a research team from Western Sydney University and ANROWS worked with community stakeholders to produce a groundbreaking report on the experiences of trans women of colour in Australia. This research set out to increase understanding of the lived experience of being a trans woman of colour living in Australia, in relation to gender transitioning and experiences of sexual violence.

The personal stories that were shared by community members throughout this project were powerful and at times devastating. The research team worked with curator Caitlin Gibson to create an exhibition that would honour these women’s lives and experiences and bring the research findings to life. Good Point Design was engaged to create the visualisations and artwork that, combined with imagery from the community members, helped form an online exhibition, Crossing The Line.

This exhibition demonstrates what is possible when other forms of expression and communication are used to share research. The visualisations help to convey the personal impact that sits behind the research, and to engage a broad audience, thereby increasing the impact of the research.
